As a real estate entrepreneur, you have a lot on your plate. You have leads to find, motivated sellers to talk to, deals to close and houses to fix and flip. With all of that and more, I don’t blame you for skipping the gym and heading straight for the couch when you get done for the day. The thing is, though, being fit and healthy can seriously improve your business. That’s why I make exercise and a good diet priorities, and you really should, too.
Not convinced that health and fitness play a big role in your flipping business? Here are just a few ways that living a healthy, active lifestyle can help you flip more houses for better profits.
Build Your Network
First, if you hit the home gym or go for a run by yourself in the mornings, you’re not necessarily going to be building a lot of contacts. On the other hand, you might be surprised who you meet if you join a kickball or softball league, start doing group classes at the gym, or choose another activity that mixes social elements into your workouts.
Real estate investment is all about building relationships, and you can make a lot of great contacts through healthy hobbies. You might even meet a future business partner or investor.
Clear Your Mind and Reduce Stress
Even if you don’t go with a social outlet for your workouts, exercise is hugely beneficial for your mental well-being, as well as for your physical health. Getting up in the mornings and sweating at the gym or going for a run will get your endorphins pumping and help you clear your head, and it will give you a chance to mentally organize your day.
Regular exercise has also been shown to improve how you deal with stress. With lower blood pressure and a better outlet for handling stressful situations, you’ll be better prepared when your general contractor tells you that you need to spend an extra $1000 on the kitchen for your current fix and flip property.
A Good Diet Fuels the Mind
On top of getting regular exercise, you know that good health relies on a balanced diet, too. But what does your diet have to do with your flipping business? Basically, carbohydrates and protein not only fuel your body, but they fuel your mind, too. Taking the time to eat a good breakfast will give your brain the fuel it needs to deal with whatever challenges your sellers, contractors and buyers have to throw at you.
A cup of coffee might help you wake up, but it won’t give you the brain power to figure out whether a short sale property is going to be a good deal or a money pit. A plate of eggs with some fruit or vegetables will do a lot more for your mental state when you start work for the day.
Don’t Forget a Good Night’s Sleep
Finally, if you’re not sleeping well, you’re not performing at your best, at work or anywhere else. Getting plenty of exercise and eating a balanced diet will help you maintain a more regular schedule so you can be more productive during the day and sleep better at night.
Then you’ll wake up in the morning feeling rested and ready to tackle all of the challenges of being a real estate entrepreneur. Even your biggest challenges with your fix-and-flip houses will seem less stressful and easier to deal with. Take care of your health, and you’ll have a much better time taking care of your business.
